Comparing your pictures to the ones in the write up you linked to, I think you have your wiring correct. Assuming the red wire running off to the right in your picture goes to ground.

I have only recently started learning about the fuel system in our cars, but I think given your description of symptoms and testing it is not unreasonable to suspect the fuel pump. Too bad it's not an inexpensive part.

I don't know how fuel pressure typically behaves if your FPR is going bad, but you might be able to find a cheap used FPR to test with next and push off the more expensive fuel pump testing until later. My gut tells me this problem isn't your FPR, but that's only my gut. I have never experienced a failed FPR so I don't know if they usually just totally stop working, or if they can go out gradually under load. I only mention it because it might be something you can eliminate for cheap.
